COVID-19: Gatineau turns red

The City of Gatineau and the neighboring MRC of Collines-de-l’Outaouais will become red zones from Sunday, the Ministry of Health announced on Saturday.

Residents of this part of the Outaouais are urged to avoid non-essential travel elsewhere in Quebec.

Bars, dining halls and performance venues will close at midnight on Saturday evening. Private gatherings will also be prohibited.

The other measures concerning schools and sports facilities will only apply from Thursday, the ministry said.

In the report unveiled Saturday, the Outaouais had 53 more cases of COVID-19 compared to the day before.

In all, 1,745 people have been infected with the virus in the region since March and 34 people who tested positive have died.
