Hercules Alpha: what, another electric van?

Another week begins and another electric van is in the news.

Much less futuristic and spectacular than the GMC Hummer EV 2022 unveiled recently, the Hercules Alpha is not a new product from A to Z like many rivals in this embryonic market segment. The young company founded in Detroit in December 2018 intends to base its pickup truck on the 2021 Nissan TITAN.

With these two evocative names from Greek mythology, we expect a very powerful and formidable vehicle. Well, based on the specs announced so far, it will. Four electric motors will join forces to generate 1,000 horsepower in total, or as much as the Hummer EV. Acceleration from 0 to 97 km / h in four seconds is, however, slower by one second.

Note also the top speed of nearly 200 km / h, the payload of 2,500 pounds and the towing capacity of 12,500 pounds, according to estimates made by Hercules.

And since we’re talking about an electric van, let’s not forget the range: 480 kilometers. The Hummer EV, let us remember, offers more than 560 kilometers and the Tesla Cybertruck, up to 800.

Interesting detail: it is a question of a zero turning diameter. In other words, thanks to the four directional wheels, the driver will be able to make turns on the spot as with the Rivian R1T, another competitor.

The objective of Hercules by partnering with another manufacturer and relying on an existing chassis is to speed up the marketing of its Alpha. On the other hand, no production schedule has been given, no price has been put forward and no prototype has yet been manufactured, the only images provided having been produced by computer.

Despite this, the site CarBuzz reports that Hercules has already raised some US $ 27 million from customer bookings. They would be around 18,000 if we consider that the required deposit is US $ 1,500.

In addition to the models mentioned above, the Hercules Alpha will compete directly with the Bollinger B1, Nikola Badger, Lordstown Endurance, Neuron T. One and others, without forgetting of course the electric Ford F-150.
