A French giant will create 1,000 jobs in Quebec

A French global giant of call centers has landed in Quebec with the intention of hiring a thousand people paid between $ 15 and $ 20 per hour by teleworking, Le Journal learned.

“We hope to create around 1,000 jobs paid between $ 15 an hour and $ 20 an hour within four years in Quebec, Gaspésie, Estrie, not necessarily only in Montreal”, shares Jérémie Mani, Canadian president of Webhelp , with sales of over $ 2.2 billion.

Founded in 2000 by two French people, Webhelp employs more than 60,000 people in more than 140 countries, speaking around 40 languages.

Nespresso, Unilever, Adidas, Airbnb … Webhelp is one of the largest customer service contractors in the world. The French company also counts several web giants among its clients.

“We are present in traditional countries, such as Morocco, the African continent, or the Philippines, with lower labor costs. In our industry, it is essential. But we also have more than 7000 people in France and thousands in England ”, continues Jérémie Mani, who was supported by Montréal International (MI) in his efforts.

Artificial intelligence

In Quebec, Webhelp intends to rely on artificial intelligence for its call centers, which it prefers to call “contact centers” because the tasks are done a lot by email and using social networks.

“There is an often distorted image of our professions. We often see it as a little under-exploited people behind a telephone or a screen and that we leave to fend for the questions of angry customers, but that’s not it, “insists the Canadian boss of the company.

In the midst of a pandemic, Webhelp hopes to recruit Quebec talent by the hundreds from across Quebec. In Germany, more than 300 people in the company are working from home.

“Quebec cannot be managed from Dallas, Mexico or Puerto Rico, in part perhaps, but only at the margin. We have to be close to our customers, ”concludes Jérémie Mani, who is targeting North America.
