Émilie Daraîche’s three cats

Daughter of Paul Daraîche, Émilie Daraîche has three cats who are like her children: Lilly-Rose, 10, has the same character as her; Bella, 6, is his favorite; Molly Boy, a young kitten, is a gentle monster with a pink collar.

WHAT IS THE REASON THAT DRIVED YOU TO HAVE THESE THREE CATS?

In the case of Lilly-Rose, it’s a surprise Christmas present from my parents, in 2011. It was to replace my other cat who died just before the holidays. Lilly-Rose has a rather exceptional character and doesn’t get along with other cats, so when I moved in with my partner, she stayed with my parents. Bella was already with my partner when I met him. She was 4 months old. I am the adoptive mom! I love it. It’s really my pussy, my, my child, downright! I adopted a kitten, Molly Boy, while in confinement. Looks like I was bored! I wanted a baby and I wanted to take care of it …

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THESE NAMES?

All of my animals have human names. I choose the name a bit on the fly. Lilly-Rose had a look on Lilly! For Molly Boy, I thought I adopted a female and had the name Molly in mind before I even adopted her. Recently I learned that it was a male, hence its name, Molly Boy. He still has his pink necklace (Molly’s daughter) on his neck.

WHY ARE YOU MORE “CAT” OR “DOG”?

Personally, I have never had dogs. Looks like I’m less close to them. I’m more of a cat! I like their side which is both independent and affectionate.

HOW TO DESCRIBE THE PERSONALITY OF YOUR CATS IN A FEW SENTENCES?

Lilly-Rose has the same character as me: she’s wild and doesn’t want to live with anyone. She only loves three people: daddy, mommy and me … grumpy cat ! Bella is very affectionate and sensitive. She is still glued to us. She sleeps with us. It’s our little cat! Looks like she’ll always be a baby. At the moment, Molly Boy is a young monster. A destroyer. I don’t know how it will evolve.

TELL US ABOUT A COCASSE, UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL FACT ABOUT LILLY-ROSE.

When she meows, Lilly-Rose has the same voice as dad. I’m sure she has lumps on her vocal cords, like him. That’s why her full name is Lilly-Rose Daraîche!

She goes outside and has a bell on her collar because she wants to hunt. The only thing she managed to grab and get into the house is what scares me the most in the world: a toad. She seemed happy and meowing, proud and as if to say, “Look what I caught!” And me, I was flipping!

TELL US ABOUT A BAD MOLLY BOY.

It’s a monster. He’s chomped through all the chair legs here, he crunches my books, he even eats handkerchiefs.

WHEN …

I discovered that Lilly-Rose was a great traveler when I moved to Gaspésie and that I had 12 hours of road to do with her. She did it like a “dog” who loves the car. She didn’t meow and was very relaxed.

DURING CONTAINMENT, WHAT DID YOU SPECIFICALLY GET FROM YOUR CATS?

I spent so much time with them. I got closer to my cats. As if I had found them. I really fell in love with them.
