The prime minister’s office said Justin Trudeau thanked his American counterpart for his support in the case of the two Canadians detained in China since December 2018.

Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor were thrown in jail after the arrest in Vancouver, British Columbia, of an executive of Chinese company Huawei, Meng Wanzhou.

Canadian authorities arrested him at the request of the United States, which accuses the Huawei executive of fraud.

In addition to this thorny diplomatic question, Justin Trudeau and Donald Trump also discussed the health crisis.

However, it was not clear whether the issue of closing the border was on the agenda.

Since March, it is no longer possible, with rare exceptions, to travel between the two countries. The reopening has been continuously postponed since. For now, we know that the Canada-US border is closed at least until October 21.

Obviously, difficult to address the current pandemic, not to mention the state of health of the US president, who contracted COVID-19 last week.

The Canadian Prime Minister once again sent his best wishes to Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, who also caught the virus.

Justin Trudeau’s office also said in a statement that Donald Trump had inquired about the state of health of Sophie Grégoire, the wife of Justin Trudeau, who for her part suffered from COVID-19 at the start of the crisis.
