Golfer Jim Furyk became the third player in Champions Tour history to win his first two tournaments on Sunday at the Pure Insurance Championship.
Only Arnold Palmer and Bruce Fleisher had achieved the feat before him.
To win, Furyk had to defeat Jerry Kelly in overtime. The winner had a birdie on par 5 of 18e pennant, while his rival touched the ball five times.
After the 54 regulation holes, the two Americans had a cumulative score of 204 (-12). Furyk played 67 (-5), while Kelly handed a 65 (-7) card in the final round.
Canadian Mike Weir (69), meanwhile, finished the event tied with South African Retief Goosen (70) for fourth. Both men hit three more shots than the leaders. Ernie Els (70), who is a compatriot of Goosen, finished third.
Coming back to Furyk, he had previously won The Ally Championship. The event held last month was the 50-year-old’s first tournament to play on the senior PGA Tour.
