Ontario: acceleration of infrastructure projects

Construction of the province’s infrastructure projects, such as highways and public transportation networks, will be accelerated. Transport Minister Caroline Mulroney tabled a bill to this effect on Thursday.

“The road to a full economic recovery is going to be long,” she warned, however.

She wants to reduce administrative formalities to speed up certain projects in the provinces, “cut the bureaucracy to stimulate our economy now”.

According to the government, these new “temporary” legislative measures could help to better limit risks and unnecessary delays, reduce costs and promote competition in tenders for public transport projects.

There are no more screening backlogs

Moreover, after several weeks in which Ontario was grappling with tens of thousands of testing for CoViD-19 awaiting analysis, the Minister of Health Christine Elliott assured that the backlog of screening has been reduced to zero.
