A platform to make law accessible

Making legal information accessible: this is the main objective of the new government platform JuridiQC.ndre accessible legal information: this is the main objective of the new government platform JuridiQC.

Its aim is therefore to help citizens to get information and to have recourse to legal support.

“The idea is really to make it simple and easy for the citizen,” indicates the Quebec Minister of Justice, Simon Jolin-Barrette.

Thus, the deployment will take place over four years, but the first subject that we find affects thousands of Quebecers each year: separation and divorce.

“It must be understood that separation and divorce today, one in three citizens at the present time represents themselves alone in situations of separation or divorce,” says Gilles Lajoie of the Quebec Legal Information Society (SOQUIJ) .

For two lawyers specializing in family law, the tool is timely.

“We know, with the pandemic, there are several questions that arise for separations, for childcare,” notes Me Amélie Dufour.

“Our interventions were necessary, in fact, I would dare say more than in the last year,” adds Me Suzy Guylaine Gagnon.

Since the start of the pandemic, the phone has been ringing a lot in the office.

“Honestly, it was very anxiety-provoking and it is still very much so for the various stakeholders in the justice system,” explains Me Gagnon.

The site will also be a complementary tool for professionals.

“I think it’s a good way for citizens to find each other easily, but also for them to be sure that the information they will find on this site is true and that they can there proud, ”says Me Dufour.

To set up JuridiQC, the government is investing $ 17.2 million in the project, and to publicize it, it is launching a first advertising campaign.

“I think it’s important to educate people and make sure that this kind of situation goes as well as possible for the family and particularly for the children,” said Minister Jolin-Barrette.

Even though JuridiQC’s goal is not to encourage people to represent themselves, advice will soon be available for those who wish to do so.

In addition, the new component which will appear will concern the rights of the elderly.
