Concerns of healthcare workers in the Gaspé

With the outbreaks active in two CHSLDs and at the Hôpital de Maria, the situation is not easy for the employees of the health network in Gaspésie.

The Union of Nurses, Auxiliary Nurses and Respiratory Therapists of Est-du-Québec is concerned that there is still movement of staff between certain units of the Hôpital de Maria.

Workers are concerned about staff moving between hot and cold areas in the same establishment.

According to the union, these trips are possible as a last resort to avoid service disruptions due to lack of staff.

“We must try to avoid such trips at all costs. We can see it in the field, travel is always the easy solution taken by the CISSS to manage the problem ”, explained Friday Pier-Luc Bujold, president of the Union of nurses, auxiliary nurses and respiratory therapists of Eastern Quebec. .

There are other solutions to the dire staff shortage, according to Mr. Bujold, such as upgrading some full-time positions.

The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) de la Gaspésie explains that, to avoid a break in service, management may have to move employees from one unit to another in the same establishment.

“In this case, all infection prevention and control measures are implemented,” said the CISSS de la Gaspésie in an email sent to TVA Nouvelles.
