Nothing could have made Brendan Gallagher more happy than securing his future with the Montreal Canadiens until 2027. Negotiations were not always easy, but the striker was not ready to leave the metropolis Quebecois soon.

“It really was the first time since I’ve been a Montreal Canadian that this thought crossed my mind. I had to make decisions for my future, if I wanted to stay with the Canadian, which was hard for me. They’re the only team I’ve known and you fall in love with everything they stand for, ”Gallagher said in a video conference Thursday.

“It might have seemed like short negotiations to everyone, but to me it was an eternity. It’s good to get up the next day and have this positive news. ”

Just before Gallagher addresses the media, general manager Marc Bergevin praised the fiery 28-year-old. Struggling to contain his emotions, the boss of hockey operations mentioned that his player was someone special, which is a feeling shared by the British Columbian.

“Since I’ve been in Montreal, no one shows more passion for the Montreal Canadiens than he,” admitted Gallagher. […] He has a purpose, and that’s what he told me when he called me yesterday [mercredi]. It was: “Now that this is over, let’s go win”. This is our common goal. ”

The two men have met regularly for eight years in the entourage of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. It was even Bergevin who gave Gallagher his first chance; a moment neither of them will forget.
