Officially resuscitated last June, it is today that the new Ford Mustang Mach 1 2021 opens its order book. The date is well chosen, because it is exactly 73 years since the pilot of the American army, Chuck Yeager, became the first person to break the sound barrier – the famous “Mach 1”.
Unlike the electric Mustang Mach E, ordering cannot be done online. You must contact a Ford dealer. The base price is set at $ 65,500, plus freight and delivery charges of $ 1,800.
Like the original launched in 1969, this generation of the Mach 1 fills a gap between the Mustang GT ($ 40,790) and the Mustang Shelby. At the same time, it replaces the BULLITT special edition ($ 58,500) as well as the Shelby GT350 ($ 76,425), which will not be back in 2021 either.
Armed with a specially tuned 5.0-liter V8 that develops 480 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm, the new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 becomes the Mustang most efficient on-track 5.0-liter ever. This is notably thanks to a redesigned front axle, several Ford Performance parts taken from Shelby models (intake manifold, oil filter adapter, engine oil cooler, etc.) and an improved hold package available in option.
For purists, both good and bad news: A Tremec six-speed manual is included as standard, but it includes a downshift rev-matching feature that eliminates the heel-toe. Alternatively, buyers can opt for a 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with a revised torque converter.

The subject upgraded outfit, offered exclusively with the manual transmission, features unique 19-inch aluminum wheels with a dark tarnish finish, an exclusive wider front spoiler for better ground support, new wheel arch moldings and than a rear spoiler derived from the Shelby GT500.
Exterior color options include a Mach 1-exclusive Fighter Gray (Decor Package only), as well as Signature Silver, Shadow Black, Oxford White, Velocity Blue, Twister Orange, Race Red and Radiant Yellow. Satin black stripes on the sides and hood are included, with contrasting stripes available in a choice of three colors: red, white and orange (decor package only).
