Canada’s Milos Raonic won his first round match of the tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia on Tuesday.
Raonic, the tournament’s sixth seed and 21st racket in the world, defeated American JJ Wolf, qualifying and 123rd in the ATP standings, in two sets of 7-6 (5) and 6-1.
The winner achieved an impressive total of 21 aces in the duel. He did not commit any double faults and saved five break points.
In the next round, the Ontarian will cross swords with Kazakh Alexander Bublik, 52nd in the world.
Raonic was back in action after withdrawing from Roland Garros, which ended two days ago with the 13th coronation of Spaniard Rafael Nadal at Porte d’Auteuil.
Later, in the same tournament, the Canadian Vasek Pospisil will face the Russian Andrey Rublev, 10th in the world and third seed.
