Despite leading the Chicago White Sox to their first playoff appearance since 2008, manager Rick Renteria was fired on Monday.
The 58-year-old has been at the helm of this team for the past four campaigns. In 2020, his squad posted a 35-25 record, finishing second in the Central Division of the American League. However, the Sox fell back in their recent 2 of 3 streak ahead of the Oakland Athletics.
During her time with the club, Renteria maintained a record of 236-309. For him, this is a sad irony, because he was also sacked by the other team of the Windy City, the Cubs, at the end of the 2014 season.
Separately, the Sox will determine the fate of the instructor staff following discussions involving the next head coach.
