Having previously coached Taylor Hall when he was behind the Edmonton Oilers bench, Buffalo Sabers head coach Ralph Krueger was instrumental in the free agent’s decision to join the club.
Hall, who agreed to a one-season, $ 8 million pact on Sunday, has indeed chatted with Krueger on several occasions on conference calls with general manager Kevyn Adams and owners Kim and Terry Pegula, but also privately.
“I think the way Ralph had built a relationship with Taylor before played a big part in all of this,” Adams said on video conference. I know they’ve spent quite a bit of time these last few days talking. ”
According to the CEO, the discussions between the two men mainly revolved around one main theme: the will to win.
“I think, since he signed, that he thinks he can do that here. He obviously studied our training and we talked about it. We had deep conversations about the philosophy of the organization. ”
With Eichel
Hall also spoke with forward Jack Eichel before making his decision. A conversation the newcomer seems to have enjoyed.
“I think it played a role,” Adams said. I think it’s a great combination. We’re very lucky to have one of the best crosses on the tour and feel like we’re adding one of the best wingers. So we’re excited about the potential of it all. ”
Krueger is also of the same opinion as his boss, saying that he would most certainly bring the two stars together in the same trio.
“You will see us often in [ce trio]Krueger told WGR 550 radio station Monday morning. There’s a very good chance that the speed and skill of these two will synergize for something extremely exciting. ”
“I have some notes in front of me right now and it looks something like that.”
