COVID-19: staff at Maria hospital infected

Public health has observed a certain slowdown in the spread of COVID-19 in Gaspé in municipalities in the red zone for a week now.

However, authorities are concerned about the recent outbreak at Maria Hospital where staff members have been diagnosed positive for COVID-19.

So far, there are no patients who have reportedly been infected. Many measures have been put in place to prevent the spread.

“It’s still worrying because we know that a healthcare environment is much more fragile. We are talking about sick people so we would not want it to pass from staff to patients, ”explained Dr. Yv Bonnier-Viger, director of public health for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

Dr Bonnier-Viger ensures that efforts are being made to contain this new outbreak.

Remember that outbreaks took place at the CHSLD de Maria as well as in a retirement home.

In the Gaspé, three municipalities are still in the red zone: Nouvelle, Carleton-sur-Mer and Maria.

The municipality of New Richmond still decided to close municipal services in an attempt to reduce the risk of spread.

“The municipal council has taken the decision to close all its sports, leisure and cultural infrastructures to send a message to the population,” said Éric Dubé, prefect of the MRC de Bonaventure.
