Stamkos operated, but ready for the next season

Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos went under the knife last Wednesday. The defending Stanley Cup champions, however, expect the center to recover in time for the start of the next season.

According to journalist Joe Smith, of sports site The Athletic, Stamkos was operated on by the Dr Michael Brunt, in St. Louis. The intervention aimed to repair an injury to the left lower abdominal muscle.

The 30-year-old maverick was forced to miss a dozen games towards the end of the regular campaign. He still collected 66 points in 57 games before his season was announced as over.

Stamkos finally returned to the playoffs, the instant of 2min and 47s. During his presence on the ice, he scored an important goal for the Lightning, in the first period of Game 3 of the final against the Dallas Stars.
