On this incredible opening day for the free agent market, the Toronto Maple Leafs came to an agreement with veteran Wayne Simmonds.
The agreement
A native of Scarborough, the 32-year-old forward has signed a one-season deal that will net him $ 1.5 million. The contract also includes a non-movement clause. The player was paid $ 5.5 million last season.
A well-rounded CV
Simmonds has a lot of experience in the NHL. He has already worn the colors of the Kings, Flyers, Predators, Devils and more recently the Buffalo Sabers.
In 909 games in the NHL, he has a record of 251 goals, 248 assists for a total of 499 points. Notably, he accumulated 1123 penalty minutes.
Add robustness
GM Kyle Dubas had said earlier this week that he wants his squad to become more difficult to face and the addition of the robust player to compliment his 3rd and 4th lines will be a big factor.
