It was in early spring 2019 that the next-generation Ford Escape was first introduced — including its hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions — for the 2020 model year.
However, 18 months later, the plug-in Escape or PHEV is still pending. Worse still, we learn today that production will not start before January 2021.
This is what the site reports Ford Authority, which quotes information obtained from Ford spokesman in the United States, Mike Levine. The latter still defends himself by saying that deliveries to dealers will begin “soon”.
The exact causes of this delay are not specified. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly had an impact, but it must also be said that Ford has a lot of work to do this year with the launches of the new 2021 F-150, Bronco and Mustang Mach-E.
Oddly, the Escape plug-in hybrid would remain a 2020 model when it left the factory. And always according to Ford Authority, production of the 2021 gasoline Ford Escape is set to begin Jan. 4.
The blue-oval manufacturer risks losing even more customers to the sensational 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime which, compared to its product, offers greater electric range (68 kilometers instead of 61), a big gain in power (302 horsepower instead of 209) and additional two-wheel drive, while benefiting from more generous government discounts that cancel out the price difference (Escape PHEV from $ 37,549; RAV4 Prime from $ 44,990).
For its part, the 2021 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring, the plug-in hybrid version of the compact SUV from Ford’s luxury division, will roll off the assembly line starting November 9.
