Montreal Football Club: Paul St-Pierre Plamondon is satisfied

The leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, seems more to appreciate the change of identity of the Montreal Impact, which became the Montreal Football Club, on Thursday.

When information to the effect that the soccer team is renamed “Montreal FC” circulated in the media, the elected official declared on December 2 that the sports organization “lacks delicacy”. However, the name unveiled by the concession of businessman Joey Saputo delighted Mr. St-Pierre-Plamondon.

“The Impact’s decision to finally opt not for Montreal Football Club, but @clubdefootmtl should be welcomed. I spoke about this before the holidays. I see that this is a great sensitivity to the francophone character of Montreal, ”he wrote on his Twitter account.

“Although I was among those who had an attachment to the name of the Impact, I must admit that I am very pleasantly surprised by the sensitivity of the organization towards the Francophone character of Montreal. Also, that will give us another distinctive trait, very unique, in a North American league. In my opinion, our name is a good choice. I just wanted to mention that I appreciate this gesture and that I will be in the stands for the next season, ”he also said in a 47-second video broadcast on the same platform.

At the beginning of December, Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon’s comments were harsh to say the least.

“There is nothing preventing us from distinguishing ourselves with a name that represents the French-speaking character of Montreal, rather than giving ourselves a name exactly identical to all the clubs in North America. This is a missed opportunity. My attachment is to the Impact and I am very surprised, ”he indicated, as reported by the QMI Agency at that time.
