Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau is due to carry out a cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday, TVA Nouvelles has learned.
According to our information, Minister of Transport Marc Garneau will now be reassigned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is currently managed by François-Philippe Champagne.
In doing so, Mr. Champagne will in turn replace Navdeep Bains, the current Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.
The reshuffle will take place in particular because Mr. Bains had already indicated that he would not stand for re-election in the next election and he would have decided to leave the office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau immediately.
Finally, it is the deputy Omar Alghabra who will inherit the Ministry of Transport. The latter is currently Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.
The official announcement must be made Tuesday morning by the Prime Minister.
This small cabinet shuffle will come hours before the start of a retreat from the Liberal ministers’ caucus. Discussions, in virtual mode, between the ministers are to begin Tuesday and continue on January 14, 18 and 21.
The caucus should take advantage of this virtual retreat to discuss vaccination and post-pandemic economic recovery.
