The native of Quebec, who grew up in Alberta, will be able to experience a new start in the organization of the Hurricanes.
In Ottawa, Lajoie played 56 games during the 2018-2019 season, recording 15 points, including seven goals. The full-back, however, had been limited to six National Hockey League (NHL) games during the recent campaign, having mostly worn the colors of the Belleville Senators in the American League.
In return for 23-year-old Lajoie, the Senators secured the services of forward Clark Bishop, a 24-year-old from Newfoundland. He has played in 25 career NHL games, all with the Hurricanes.
