Students from another elementary school in the Quebec City region will need to be screened for a COVID-19 outbreak.
The parents of the students at the Hauts-Clochers school in L’Ancienne-Lorette received a letter to this effect in the last hours.
Public health at the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale has confirmed the presence of cases of COVID-19 at the Notre-Dame pavilion.
According to the most recent portrait of the situation, five classes are currently closed at this location following the confirmation of 23 cases in total of COVID-19 in 1time, 2e, 4e and 5e year. In a group of 5e year, 14 positive cases were even detected. The school remains open for the moment.
“Your child may have been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. As a preventive measure, in order to better assess the situation, the Public Health Department recommends screening all the students of the Notre-Dame pavilion of the Hauts-Clochers school, who have not already withdrawn from school ” , can we read in the letter.
Screening will take place on Tuesday during school hours. For preschool students, 1time to the 3e year inclusively, as well as for specialized classes, the presence of parents is required.
People who have already been tested for symptoms, and who have tested negative, should be tested again, in order to get a full picture of the situation.
However, people who show symptoms should not be screened.
The main symptoms are fever, new onset or worsening of a cough, difficulty in breathing or sudden loss of smell without nasal congestion with or without loss of taste.
Isolation of people with COVID-19 lasts at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms or after a positive COVID-19 test result to cover the period of contagiousness.
