Success for the School of Sight

The national program at L’École de la Vue, aimed at screening for vision disorders in order to promote children’s educational success at the very beginning of their school career, was a resounding success this fall. In all, 150 schools in the province were visited and 5,453 preschool children (4 and 5 years old) were screened, representing participation rates of 80% of families and 86% of schools. At the end of this major operation, 2,015 children had been referred to a visual clinic, confirming the importance of having an eye exam before entering school. In this time of pandemic, the Eye Disease Foundation took care to put in place a rigorous health protocol, accepted by the Public Health of Quebec, then ratified by the Order of Optometrists of Quebec, in order to ensure the safety of children and optometrists who went to meet them.
