OHL: no body hits

The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OHL) will ban body hitting during its 2020-2021 season.

Ontario Sports Minister Lisa MacLeod said on Friday.

She explained that it had become “necessary” to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Recall that on Wednesday, the OHL announced that it intended to start its 2020-2021 campaign on February 4. It will be a season shortened by 40 games.

Ms. MacLeod also said the decision was influenced by what has unfolded in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in recent weeks. Unlike the OHL and the Western League, the Courteau circuit has chosen to resume its activities in the fall. There have been a few outbreaks of the virus in some teams. The activities of clubs located in Quebec were also put on hold. The formations in the red zone are also always in neutral.
