Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians was very enthusiastic Wednesday, after receiver Antonio Brown’s first practice with the team.
“He looks in fantastic shape. We had a very good discussion today him and me, ”said Arians, whose comments were reported by ESPN.
“He was at the meetings and everything. He works with Anthony Piroli (the fitness trainer) and the staff to build strength. He looks in great shape and ready to play next week. ”
Recently acquired by the Buccaneers as a free agent, Brown is set to complete an eight-week suspension imposed by the NFL due to his off-court escapades. He could therefore face the New Orleans Saints next week with his new team.
After agreeing to a one-year contract with the Bucs last Friday, Brown was tested for COVID-19. It was his first presence in the Bucs facilities on Wednesday.
Arians believes the 32-year-old will comply with the league’s coronavirus protocol without problems.
“He wants to play. And if he wants to play, he has to do it, ”he told The Athletic.
Brown has not played in the NFL since September 2019. He then played his only game with the New England Patriots, who later released him. Previously, he had been released by the Oakland Raiders.
Brown has participated in the Pro Bowl seven times during his NFL career. Selected in the sixth round of the 2010 Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the American has caught 841 for 11,263 yards since the start of his career on the Goodell Tour.
