If the Tesla Model 3 is the best-selling electric car today, it is much more because of its impressive range and its integration of many advanced technologies than because of its build quality.
We have already told you about the painting problems. Now it’s more serious: the rear bumper can fall downright in heavy rain!
No, this is not a joke. See the video captured by the camera of a Model 3 owner:
It should be noted that this is not an isolated case. Several such incidents have been reported since 2018. After months of investigation, Tesla finally admits the existence of a manufacturing defect.
A service bulletin has just been issued by the company and it mentions that “components of Model 3 cars assembled at the Fremont plant before May 21, 2019 can be damaged by driving in standing water on a poorly drained road or highway. ”
At least one owner on the forum Reddit however, claims to have lost the rear bumper of his Model 3 which was manufactured in 2020.
Fortunately, the damage in question is covered by the warranty. From what we can understand, the solution is to make a new cutout in the bumper to prevent the accumulation of water which creates excessive pressure on the body.
Is this enough to reassure the owners? In any case, if you are a motorist following a Model 3 when it is raining heavily, you might be better off staying away!
