Los Angeles | The filmmaker and environmental activist James Redford, son of the legendary actor Robert Redford, died of cancer at the age of 58, we learned Tuesday from his entourage.
Robert Redford, 84, “is in mourning with his family in these difficult times and asks that his privacy be respected,” the actor’s publicist Cindi Berger told AFP.
James Redford passed away last Friday at his California home, his wife Kyle Redford said on Twitter, in a message accompanied by several family photos.
“We are heartbroken. He led a good, active life and was loved by many. He will be greatly missed, ”writes his widow.
The filmmaker suffered from cancer of the bile duct, located in the liver, diagnosed last November while he was awaiting a liver transplant.
James Redford was a passionate environmental and health activist, and his films focused on these topics. In 2005, he and his father founded the Redford Center, an NGO dedicated to promoting and funding films on the environment and climate change.
