Aline will be released in around 20 countries

A few weeks before its theatrical release in France, the film Aline, which is freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion, has already been sold in about twenty countries around the world, revealed Tuesday the Hollywood magazine Variety.

Spain, Italy, Portugal, Australia, Japan, Poland and Bulgaria are among the many countries that have already acquired the distribution rights for this new film from French actress and director Valérie Lemercier. Negotiations have also been initiated with an American distributor.

Expected output

One of the most anticipated films of autumn in France, Aline should take the poster on November 11 in theaters of the Hexagon. According to the newspaper The Parisian, the distributor Gaumont does not intend to postpone the release of the feature film, even if the evening performances will be limited by the curfew which is currently in force in several large French cities, such as Paris and Lyon.

The film is due on screens in Quebec a few weeks later – on November 27 – and is also due to open at the Montreal Cinémania festival on November 5.

Tribute

Starring several Quebec actors, including Sylvain Marcel, Danielle Fichaud and Roc Lafortune, Aline recounts the journey of Aline Dieu (Valérie Lemercier), a Quebec singer with an exceptional voice. Even if the central character is freely inspired by Celine Dion, Valérie Lemercier assured last month in an interview at Newspaper that his film is not a parody.

“The idea of parodying Céline has never crossed my mind,” she said. I kept a grain of salt all the time, from the beginning to the end of the production of the film, to make it a tribute. I wanted to talk about her with great modesty and never betray her. Hope this is what you [le public québécois] will also think when seeing the film. “
