New rise in COVID-19 cases in Quebec

Coronavirus cases have increased again, without however reaching the record thresholds of ten days ago, Wednesday, in the region of Quebec, where we deplore a 22e hatching in a living environment for seniors.

COVID-19 has claimed two new victims in the Capitale-Nationale territory, bringing the number of deaths to 249 since the start of the pandemic.

A resident succumbed to the infection at the Fargy accommodation center in Beauport, which is added to the list of outbreaks, as revealed The newspaper in its Wednesday edition.

So far, 11 users have fallen ill, as have 6 employees.

The other death occurred at the Saint-Augustin accommodation center, where the coronavirus has now killed 7 people in addition to infecting 29 residents (an increase of 4) and 34 employees (an increase of 2).

159 new cases

Across the Capitale-Nationale, Public Health on Wednesday confirmed 159 new cases of infection over a 24-hour period, about thirty more than what was announced the day before. However, we remain far from the peak of 265 new cases reported on October 4.

The number of hospitalizations remains high in the region: 92 infected people were receiving care on Wednesday, including one more person in intensive care, for a total of nine in this sector.

The CIUSSS also announced the addition of 14 positive cases identified in the past few days, but which had not appeared on the balance sheet due to a technical glitch, it was indicated.

Since the start of the crisis in March, a total of 6,465 people have contracted COVID-19, of which 1,292 are still considered to be “active” carriers.

Chaudière-Appalaches

In Chaudière-Appalaches, the toll was down on Wednesday: the health region announced 67 new positive cases, or ten less than the day before, bringing the total since March to 2,291 cases, and no new deaths on its territory.

On the other hand, three new outbreaks were declared: one at the Center de réadaptation en deficiency physique (transitional functional rehabilitation unit in Lévis), where there are “less than five active cases among users and workers”, and two others in companies which are not specified.

The situation is nonetheless stable in the six other outbreaks in retirement homes.

As usual, Quebec posted the highest number of cases in the country on Wednesday, with 844 new people infected. However, we must add to this report 359 cases which had been forgotten during the last three days, so that 1203 positive tests were finally announced, in addition to six deaths.
