After more than 13 years without playing together, brothers Federico and Gonzalo Higuain will finally be reunited in Major League Soccer (MLS) with Inter Miami CF.
Federico, a 35-year-old midfielder and MLS player since 2012, has been traded to the Florida expansion team from DC United. In return, they get their hands on a general allowance amount of $ 50,000.
The two Argentines will now be on the same squad for the first time since 2007. At the time, they were lining up for River Plate, in their homeland.
Gonzalo, a 32-year-old forward, recently arrived in North America, after a successful career in Europe, where he was notably a member of Real Madrid and Juventus Turin.
Federico Higuain has made 10 appearances for DC United this season, his first for the U.S. Capital side. He had two goals in the “MLS is back” tournament. The veteran had previously played the majority of his career with the Columbus Crew, amassing 59 goals and 51 assists in 210 matches in all competitions.
“Federico is a great player in this league,” said Paul McDonough, sports director of Inter Miami. We were happy to add more depth of offense, experience and play building skills to our squad when the opportunity presented itself. ”
Miami is struggling in its first season on the Garber circuit. Before Saturday’s games, the team was at 12e rank in the Eastern Conference, with 14 points in 16 games.
