The exact number of new contaminations is 16,972, according to data from the French public health agency. To find a comparable number, we have to go back to September 24, with just over 16,000 cases.

The test positivity rate (proportion of positive people out of all those tested) continues to grow steadily and is approaching 8% (7.9%), compared to around 4.5% a month ago.

In addition, 32,198 people have died from COVID-19 since the start of the health crisis in February-March, or 49 new deaths in 24 hours.

Throughout France, 1,289 COVID patients are currently hospitalized in intensive care, that is to say in serious condition, or 13 more than the day before. The national capacity of resuscitation beds is around 5,000.

A total of 6,740 people are currently hospitalized for having contracted COVID-19. Over the last seven days, 4,087 new hospitalizations were recorded (including 849 in intensive care).

Finally, 1,294 sources of contamination are under investigation.

Faced with the upsurge of the epidemic, Paris and several other metropolises risk experiencing the same fate as Marseille and falling into the maximum alert zone on Monday, synonymous with radical restrictions, even if the government granted them a reprieve on Thursday.
