The 18-year-old Quebecer lost in two sets of 7-5 and 6-3.
Fernandez struggled to put the ball in play with her first serve during this game, with a 54% save rate, but she continued to fight against the 11th player in the world.
Kvitova broke Fernandez’s serve seven times during the game while the Quebecer herself managed four breaks on 13 occasions.
Before losing to Kvitova, the Quebecer, who is expected to climb to around 85th in the WTA standings after this tournament, defeated Magda Linette and Polona Hercog earlier in the competition.
At just 18, Fernandez became the youngest Canadian to reach the third round in a major tournament. She surpassed the mark held by Torontonian Carling Bassett-Seguso who, in 1987, made it to the third round, also in Paris, at the age of 19.
