The man suspected of having broken the jaw of a bus driver on Saturday on the North Shore had warned that he would not hesitate to resort to violence if he was forced to wear a mask.
“I’m going to have to put a bullet between my eyes to wear a mask. Worse if you don’t put a bullet between my eyes, worse if you want me to wear the mask, well … it’s your right to life that will be at stake, ”warned Patrick Desbiens, in a statement. video posted on Facebook on July 16.
This 38-year-old anti-mask refused yesterday afternoon to identify himself in court, during his appearance by video conference at the Laval courthouse.
Desbiens was to be charged with assault causing bodily harm and mischief.
He would have savagely attacked a bus driver in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, last Saturday evening.
He had boarded at the Sainte-Thérèse station. During the trip, the driver had to tell him to keep his mask on. Before leaving at the corner of Sainte-Anne and Therrien, the recalcitrant went to the driver.
He allegedly hit her with a punch that fractured her jaw and shattered her glasses.
No return to work
Severely banged up, the 55-year-old lady was nevertheless relieved that her assailant was arrested on Wednesday evening, we are told.
“There are significant psychological consequences. There is no question for her to work soon ”, confided Stéphane Lacroix, spokesperson for Teamsters, union of truck drivers.
“It’s very serious, all the more so at the moment,” added Camille Boulier, from Transdev, the victim’s employer.
His attacker, a resident of Sainte-Thérèse, had been having fun for some time testing the tolerance of traders in the face of respect for wearing a mask, then boasted about it on Facebook.
He thinks he’s a prince
Not complying with the judge yesterday either, Desbiens introduced himself as “Melkinsédek [sic], prince of justice, prince of the living God ”.
“Do you know what my role is? »Took the trouble to ask Judge Marc-André Dagenais.
“To incriminate the innocent”, retorted the defendant.
All that was needed was for the magistrate, who had shown patience, to abruptly end the session.
He demanded that an assessment of Desbiens’ ability to face justice be carried out at the Philippe-Pinel Institute in Montreal before his next appearance, next Thursday.
