Electrify Canada: simplified prices, but charging stations that are long overdue

Inaugurated in September 2019, Volkswagen’s new Electrify Canada fast-charging station network is slow to take root with barely nine locations in service out of the 32 initially planned, some of which are associated with Canadian Tire stores.

Never mind, the company has just announced that simplified and more competitive rates will come into effect next Monday, October 5.

Charging will be billed per minute no longer according to three levels of current available (from 1 to 75 kW, from 1 to 125 kW and from 1 to 350 kW), but rather only two (from 1 to 90 kW and 1 to 350 kW).

All $ 1 charging session fees will be eliminated and the rates for charging with stronger current will be reduced by more than 50%, to as low as $ 0.44 per minute. The rate for the basic top-up will remain at $ 0.21 per minute (with Pass + subscription).

The easiest way to find a station in the Electrify Canada network, view available stations, start charging, track progress and pay is through the mobile app – just like with the Electric Circuit.

In Quebec, Electrify Canada plans to install its first stations in Quebec, Drummondville, Trois-Rivières, Repentigny, Blainville, Vaudreuil-Dorion and Sherbrooke. To find out more, just visit the site www.electrify-canada.ca.
