Because 2020 is really not a normal year, the next edition of the Québec Exquis! Gourmet festival, which usually highlights the actors of the food scene, will this time headline Patrick Watson, Pascale Picard, Bobby Bazini and Gabrielle Shonk.
“We have found a way to bring together industries that are damaged by the current situation,” argues the president of the event which is in its tenth presentation, Vincent Lafortune.
The concept is very simple. Every week in October, anyone who orders a three-course meal – concocted by a chef and showcasing local products – will receive a link valid from Thursday evening to Saturday evening to watch a pre-recorded concert by 45 minutes from a Quebec artist.
In order, we will therefore have Shonk (from 8 to 10), Bazini (from 15 to 17), Picard (from 22 to 24) and Watson (from 23 to 25).
The service will be free. The money spent on meals goes to restaurateurs. The cachet of the artists is assumed by the organization of Québec Exquis !. “It’s a plus to accompany your meal,” says Mr. Lafortune.
Recruitment more difficult than expected
According to the latter, this hybrid formula of the festival was set up shortly after the cancellation of its regular spring edition when containment measures were put in place.
New to the music world, the organizers admit that they have worked harder than expected to recruit artists.
“I told myself it will be easy, everyone is available. Let’s call anyone, for sure it will be yes. After that, we discovered everyone’s reality. Some are in writing, others are working on creating a show or are tired of doing virtual. ”
Uncertain future
Will the musical portion integrated this year in Quebec be back in 202?
There will still have to be a 2021 edition. The crisis makes any future project uncertain, deplores Vincent Lafortune.
“Right now, everyone is in survival mode, restaurant owners and food producers like us. I don’t know if there is going to be a festival in 2021. I hope so, but I don’t know. The next few weeks will be important. ”
