Genesis, the young luxury brand from Korean manufacturer Hyundai, is still having difficulty convincing buyers and increasing sales despite high-quality products. Achieving this second objective obviously involves adding SUVs to its range.
Unveiled earlier this year, the all-new 2021 Genesis GV80 will make its first deliveries in Canada this fall, but it is the future compact-sized Genesis GV70 that will become the company’s bestseller.
Its design will faithfully reproduce that of its big brother. Genesis today introduced a camouflaged production model that hints at a similar grille and headlights. In profile, its lines make it appear a little more racy and sporty than the GV80.
During the month of October, Genesis will conduct road testing in Korea. Engineers have their work cut out for them to compete with the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Acura RDX of this world.
It’s still too early to know which engine (s) will be offered with the Genesis GV70, but let’s bet on the base GV80’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine (300 horsepower), possibly with slightly reduced power.
Genesis promises to give more details “shortly”. The official unveiling is expected to take place later this year or early 2021, which means the GV70 could arrive here next fall as a 2022 model.
