A fire destroyed a shopping complex at the intersection of Thierry and Turley streets early in the morning on Saturday.
Firefighters rushed to the scene at around 3:30 a.m., and the fire was under control about an hour later.
“The damage was major,” said the spokesperson for the SPVM, Jean-Pierre Brabant.
The blaze has taken its toll on a trio of Italian companies; the Marchigiani butcher, the Riccia and Pasta Tella café.
In a statement, the owners of Marchigiani said the store would be temporarily closed due to the damage, but promised to be “back as soon as possible.”
According to Brabant, the fire was probably electric in nature. However, arson has not been ruled out as a possibility and officers are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
