A Florida couple mourn the deaths of their children after their son and daughter died from COVID-19 within two days.
Longtime paramedic Gerald “Jerry” Jones, 51, and his sister, Shyla Pennington, 41, a teaching assistant, have died of coronavirus.
Their father, Greg Jones, daily documented their condition on his Facebook page after the two were diagnosed positive.
“When it rains, it’s the deluge,” he wrote on September 13. Our son Gerald Jones was admitted to hospital with COVID-19. Please keep him in your prayers, as well as our daughter Shyla Pennington. ”
It is first Mme Pennington who died last Saturday. His brother died the next day.
Reached by CNN, the family has not commented on the death of their children.
“Jerry was respected and loved by everyone. Our priority now is to help his family during their grief, ”said George Recktenwald, manager of Volusia County, where the family resides.
Co-workers of Mme Pennington also paid tribute to him after his death.
“She was very dedicated to her work and did everything she could to help the students,” says Susan Persis, a former principal of a school where Ms.me Pennington worked.
Mike Chitwood, county sheriff, will remember Gerald and Shyla as “two public servants” serving their community.
