Toyota is one of the manufacturers who place great emphasis on active safety in their vehicles. For several years now, the vast majority of the brand’s models have been offered as standard with the Safety Sense technology package.
The evolution has continued since, and the new version of Safety Sense, called 2.5+, will appear in 2021.
As a reminder, the Toyota Safety Sense (also called TSS) is a set of safety equipment the number of which varies according to the models in the range. The most advanced version to date (2.0) incorporates a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering wheel assist, automatic high beams for lane keeping and adaptive cruise control .
For 2021, the Safety Sense 2.5+ suite is enhanced by the arrival of a new revised pre-collision system. The latter now includes a collision prevention system at intersections (for left turns) with assistance at the wheel. Frontal detection is now able to understand that a car is traveling in the opposite direction.
Adaptive cruise control has also been improved. When driving with the cruise control activated, the transition between slowing down and accelerating is smoother. According to Toyota, driving would now be more serene on the highway thanks to this update. Finally, lane departure warning and lane keeping assistance are now more effective according to the manufacturer.
For now, the Toyota Highlander and Camry (all gasoline and hybrid versions) are the only models to benefit from it.
