No distance education for students in isolation, denounces Rizqy

Students who have had direct contact with a person affected by COVID-19, and who must remain in isolation at home are deprived of distance education, denounces Marwah Rizqy, the opposition spokesperson for ‘Education.

In an interview with Mario Dumont, Ms. Rizqy judges that if the situation is still manageable in schools, we should not wait two weeks for everything to derail, but take measures now.

“We can already see that several classes are closed. How is it that when we close in primary, two, three, up to five full classes, the children returned home without any remote support? ”Asks Ms. Rizqy.

In his plan to return to class, the Minister of Education Jean-François Roberge had undertaken, with his “equity-quality” guarantee, to continue distance education.

He had indicated that in the event of a student’s withdrawal, it would take 24 hours to establish distance education, even providing equipment such as computers or tablets.

According to Ms. Rizqy, this is absolutely not what is happening across Quebec.

Children who have a medical note, and whose distance education was already planned at the start of the school year, benefit from a minimum education threshold, but those who are withdrawn from school due to COVID n ‘have nothing guaranteed.

“All the others, those whose parents are called at two in the afternoon to pick up their children because a case is confirmed, have returned home. Children isolated for 10 days have no distance education. Imagine when it’s a full class! ”

Unlike distance education, children in isolation might have homework, education has responsibility, it can communicate with the child, but there is no guaranteed minimum education online, says the door. -speak.

She considers that a class that closes could continue to operate virtually, and switch to distance learning, with a minimum service threshold, but this would not be the case currently.

“When we have a closed class, and the teacher is also in isolation, why not make a minimum threshold for online service? Otherwise, we are still shoveling the problem into the backyard of parents, ”says the member for Saint-Laurent.

Finally, with COVID-19, a child could be removed and placed in isolation several times in the same year, all the more reason according to Ms. Rizqy, to ensure a minimum threshold for distance education.

“Why does the minister not create a team dedicated to distance education? Do you know what? We even have the people to do it! Instead of denying preventive withdrawal to pregnant teachers, we can put them directly to online services! We will protect them and use their expertise for remote classes! ”She concludes.
