Green Party: eight aspirants running for the post of Elizabeth May

Eight candidates, including Quebecers Meryam Haddad and Dimitri Lascaris, will finally take part in the race for the leadership of the Green Party of Canada, the ultimate outcome of which is scheduled for October 3.

To lead the political formation, eight names will appear on the final ballot: Annamie Paul (ON) and Andrew West (ON), but also Meryam Haddad (QC), Dimitri Lascaris (QC), Courtney Howard (TN-O) .), Amita Kuttner (CB), David Merner (CB) and Glen Murray (MAN).

The Greens were originally scheduled to meet next October in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to elect a new leader, but the event was canceled due to public health rules in that province. The final result will finally be known at a live event in Ottawa on the evening of October 3, 2020.

Online voting will be open to activists from September 26 to October 3, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. PDT.

To vote, people have until September 3, 11:59 p.m. PDT, to become Party members. The Greens use a preferential voting system (one member, one vote).

Recall that Elizabeth May left her duties as head of the Greens on November 5 after 13 years at the head of ecological training and after her fourth electoral campaign.

“Elizabeth May elevated the Party until it became a political force on the national stage,” said General Manager Prateek Awasthi. It leaves behind a solid foundation on which the next leader can build. ”

In the last election on October 21, the Green Party was able to elect three elected officials.
