Sergey Kovalev tested positive?

Russian boxer Sergey Kovalev is said to have tested positive for using synthetic testosterone.

The news was posted by renowned boxing columnist Dan Rafael on his Twitter account on Thursday.

According to the same source, the fight scheduled for January 30 between Kovalev and Bektemir Melikuziev will logically be canceled.

Recall that Kovalev (34-4-1, 29 KOs) has faced different Quebec boxers in world championship fights during his career, including Eleider Alvarez, twice, and Jean Pascal, also twice. .

Alvarez had also surprised Kovalev to become world champion, in August 2018, in Atlantic City.

In Pascal’s case, he lost twice to the Russian boxer at the Bell Center, first in March 2015, then in January 2016.

Pascal’s suspicions

Even before the first duel between the two pugilists, Pascal had also put pressure for tests to be carried out with Kovalev.

“I can be a little crazy in my requests, but I believe in a clean sport, then indicated the Quebecer, on the sidelines of a public training held at the Cage aux Sports in Boucherville. I am a clean athlete and I just wanted to prove that we are evolving in a discipline that is just as clean. ”

“As for Kovalev, as a champion, he should be a model in the matter, added Pascal. This is a question that I will not dwell on any longer and I will focus on the fight. ”

Kovalev, at the time unified WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion, seemed annoyed by the doping issue, replying that Pascal’s demands were exaggerated for an aspirant.
