The dismantling of a major drug network in Saguenay led to the arrest of eight people and the seizure of impressive quantities of narcotics.
The results of the vast operation orchestrated Tuesday in Jonquière were presented.
Police seized more than three kilograms of cocaine, 130 pounds of cannabis, more than 70,000 methamphetamine pills, and other various drugs.
They also got their hands on $ 1.2 million in cash.
Following this operation, the police are convinced that they have dealt a fatal blow to this network, which operated almost exclusively in the Jonquière borough.
“There weren’t really any surprises on the types of narcotics found, but we certainly did not expect to fall on so much money”, mentioned the head of the Saguenay Police Department, Denis Boucher, in conference Press.
“Beautiful pride”
The investigation, which led to the arrest of eight people on Tuesday, was initiated several months ago. Along the way, the investigators accumulated elements which convinced them that the targeted network was even larger than anticipated.
The alleged leader of the network, Marc-Olivier Tremblay, 30, will try to regain freedom on Friday at the Chicoutimi courthouse.
The quantities found suggest that this network was supplied outside Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean.
The police also got hold of weapons and seized five vehicles as offense-related property.
“Yes, it’s a great pride. But tomorrow, we’ll start over with other files, ”said the Saguenay police chief.
The search involved some fifty agents. Five of the eight individuals arrested are detained, including Tremblay’s younger brother and his two parents. The police remain silent on the role that these people would have played in the network.
