Panthers | Sergei Bobrovsky back on the ice

(Sunrise, Fla.) The Florida Panthers welcomed goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on Wednesday as two-award winner Vezina took to the ice for the first time since their camp began.

Bobrovsky had been on the list of inactive players since the start of the camp on January 3. This list includes all players who are unable to attend camp for any reason, whether it is for an injury or an issue relating to COVID-19 – a positive diagnosis or potential contact with an infected person.

But regardless, Bobrovsky has received the green light. He jumped on the ice long before his teammates on Wednesday morning, and took part in some technical drills, before taking part in full training with them.

“It’s good to be back, and I feel good,” said Bobrovsky. I will need a few more practices, but I should be fine. ”

Bobrovsky spent more than 90 minutes on the ice, and Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville said he was surprised at his goaltender’s workload after such a long absence.

The Panthers were scheduled to start their season Thursday at home against the Dallas Stars, a two-game streak against the Texan team that has been postponed due to 19 positive diagnoses within their squad.

As a result, the Panthers’ opener has been postponed to Sunday against the Chicago Blackhawks, giving Bobrovsky a few extra days of practice.

If he is unable to make the start against the Hawks, then the Panthers will send Chris Driedger or Samuel Montembeault into the fray.
