Vaccination: towards stockouts in certain regions of Quebec

Quebec’s vaccination rate is no longer keeping pace with the delivery of vaccines by Ottawa, so the province is heading towards stockouts in some regions, health ministry officials told TVA Nouvelles.

Health Minister Christian Dubé warned on Monday that Quebec had only 20,000 doses of Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, urging the federal government to speed up their delivery.

“Vaccines, bring some!” He said at a press briefing.

However, the doses that the government hoped to obtain in the last few hours have still not arrived, we told Quebec.

This means that some regions may have to slow down or altogether pause their vaccination campaign over the next few days due to the lack of doses.

These are 7,058 doses of vaccine that were administered Monday in Quebec, for a total of 99,510. In total, 86% of the available doses were injected in the province.

Frying on the line

Compliance with the vaccination schedule for the injection of the second dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine continues to create a stir between Quebec and Ottawa.

Federal Supply Minister Anita Anand reiterated on Tuesday the importance for the provinces – especially Quebec – to respect the vaccination schedules provided by pharmaceuticals. The speed of delivery of doses to the provinces depends, among other things, on their compliance with this schedule.

“What I hear from pharmaceuticals is the importance of sticking to recommended timelines. The more provinces and territories do, the more I am in a strong position at the negotiating table to get deliveries sooner, ”she said.

Remember that Quebec has decided not to keep the second dose for people already vaccinated in reserve in order to speed up its vaccination campaign.

An official government communication could be made public on Wednesday to explain the strategy for inoculation of the second dose in Quebec.

Premier François Legault said Monday that the province was ready to keep doses to avoid stockouts, as demanded by Ottawa.
