The Montreal Impact has added an 18-year-old international forward to its roster, having announced Tuesday that it has acquired Sunusi Ibrahim, an athlete from Nigeria.
Transferred from club 36 Lion FC, Ibrahim has signed a contract for the next three seasons, with an option year for 2024.
“The Club is very happy to have finalized the transfer of this young player who is already part of the U23 selection of his country, despite his young age, said sports director Olivier Renard, in a press release. It’s a nice addition to the group, especially since several European clubs were also strongly interested. Sunusi Ibrahim is a fast and powerful striker who can also play on the sides. ”
The agreement between the Impact and Ibrahim will be confirmed after receipt of his international transfer certificate and his medical examination.
In 2019, with Nasarawa United, the Nigerian striker was the leading scorer in the first division of the professional league of Nigeria, with 10 goals in 22 games. With Nigeria’s Under-23 national team, he notably played three qualifying matches for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring against Zambia.
