It’s confirmed, there will be a Hyundai Kona N

After announcing changes to the Kona for 2022, including the addition of a sporty N Line version, Hyundai now confirms what many performance enthusiasts have been anticipating for over a year: a Kona N is on the way!

Hyundai’s N range, which already includes the Veloster N and soon the Elantra N, not to mention the i30 N sold in Europe, will therefore have its first SUV.

By the way, the famous letter that accompanies all these models refers to the German Nürburgring circuit, where Hyundai’s prototypes are rigorously tested and fine-tuned before they are launched on the market.

“As the N brand’s first and exciting SUV, the Kona N will deliver great versatility and driving thrills that connoisseurs of the N range know well. This vehicle can go anywhere from the road to the track, ”said Till Wartenberg, vice president and COO of the N brand and powersports business unit at Hyundai.

The photos that the Korean manufacturer shows us today do not reveal much. The new Kona N still has exclusive wheels, two big exhaust tips and arguably even more aggressive styling than the Kona N Line.

Unsurprisingly, the vehicle will feature the same eight-speed dual-clutch transmission as the Veloster N as well as the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Its exact power remains to be confirmed, but the coupe we know produces 275 horsepower.

In addition, Hyundai promises a starter function (launch control) and an exciting-sounding exhaust system to enhance driving experience.

More details will be revealed in the coming weeks, which hints at an official unveiling later in 2021. The Hyundai Kona N will be pretty much alone in its niche, rising above the new Mazda CX-30 Turbo.
