Award-winning Montrealer Naya Ali

Naya Ali is one of the first five recipients of the new Black Canadian Music Award that the SOCAN Foundation created to showcase artists from black communities across the country.

Rising star of Quebec rap, Naya Ali launched a first noticed EP, Higher Self, in 2018, before releasing his first album, Godspeed: Baptism (Prelude), in 2020. She wanted to launch another later in the year, but it seems that it will finally be in 2021 that this project can be completed.

The rapper with Ethiopian origins is the only Quebecer of the honored quintet. The other winners are Torontonians TOBi, RAAHiM, Hunnah and Dylan Sinclair.
