If the Quebec government expected that a return to a GDP equivalent to that before the pandemic would occur at the end of 2021, it should rather arrive in the first quarter of 2022.
At least, this is the opinion of the Minister of the Economy, Pierre Fitzgibbon, who addressed the issue of a return to normalcy for companies on the program “À vos affaires”, broadcast at 6.30 p.m. on LCN. .
“I think that we are talking about the first quarter of 2022, we are returning to normal in terms of GDP,” Mr. Fitzgibbon told host Pierre-Olivier Zappa.
The Minister of the Economy argued that the economic recovery could be a little longer for the sectors most affected by the health crisis.
“Mainly at the cultural level, at the level of accommodation, catering, aeronautics, so it is sure that these are sectors that are more vulnerable, them it will take longer for the recovery”, he said.
However, he believes that “it all comes down to the vaccine”.
“The day our vulnerable people are going to be vaccinated, and we are heading towards a full vaccination in September, we will see that people will be more able to want to consume,” he mentioned.
