“The region has one month to reverse its trend,” the national director of public health, Dr.r Horacio Arruda, in an interview with the TVA Nouvelles team in Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean.
“If people want to spend Christmas with their family, as we announced [jeudi], the situation must be corrected. ”
“People must understand the seriousness of the situation,” he continued. The virus circulates intensively. “The magnitude of the crisis prompts us to re-emphasize the importance of reducing contact between people, two-meter distancing and hand hygiene. The ball is in the court of the locals, ”added Dr Arruda.
The national public health director recalled that infection prevention and control teams were dispatched to CHSLDs and private residences for seniors. More than 280 investigators carry out epidemiological investigations. These investigations, according to regional authorities, have demonstrated that gatherings in private residences promote the spread of the virus.
Has the closure of bars and restaurants displaced the problem?
“It may be a factor for some, but I don’t think so,” replied the D.r Arruda. We had outbreaks, too, in hospitals, in family gatherings and in community life. This is an area that had not been exposed during the first wave. We may have forgotten how treacherous the virus is. We must be aware that a person in a gathering can bring disease. ”
“Yes, the health system is under strain in Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean. If people want to have access to their usual care, they have to do their duty, ”concluded Dr.r Arruda.
